Staudenhof and surroundings Bildungsforum

As part of the planned urban development of the "Staudenhof and surrounding area of the Bildungsforum" in Potsdam, the construction of several underground car parks is planned. Construction measures often mean an intervention in the subsoil. Historic buildings were often built on wooden pile foundations in nearby groundwater, which can be damaged by permanent groundwater subsidence. The assessment of possible groundwater impacts caused by the construction project is model-based. For this purpose, IBGW GmbH built a groundwater flow model. The groundwater model is designed as a three-dimensional multi-layer model and has a flexible grid structure. By introducing time-dependent parameters, it is possible to change the hydraulic properties of the model aquifer locally and thus to simulate the construction measures in the subsurface in their temporal sequence. The calculation is carried out transiently taking into account variable climatic conditions and under different discharge scenarios of the Havel (MW, HW). Among other things, IBGW GmbH is assisting the Potsdam redevelopment agency in the reconstruction of Potsdam's city centre. In this way, effects on the subsoil can already be recognised in the planning phase and, if necessary, alternative solutions can be opened up by the M&P Group. In this way, old cultural assets can be protected at the same time as ensuring that the city is modernised according to new standards. In this way, we help our client to achieve safe and sustainable urban development in accordance with the M&P Group's mission statement "Engineering for a Better Tomorrow".
